Sermon Series: Terrific Tension

Title: Whether You Like It Or Not, I’m Going In!

The People Around You Cannot Stop The Calling Upon You!

John 11

*1 The Tension of Waiting!

When God loves you so much that he waits!

3 So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.

4 But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.”

5 So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus,

6he stayed where he was for the next two days

What a friend we have in Jesus….

Jesus had a friend.

His name was Lazarus.

Lazarus had two sisters; Mary and Martha.

His dear friend, Lazarus, one of Jesus faithful followers gets sick.

His sisters, who based on what they said, stood privy to the wonderworking power in Jesus, so much so that they pleaded for his presence in order to save their brother.

And although Jesus loved Lazarus,

Although Jesus loved Mary,

Although Jesus  loved Martha,

Jesus…..waited!

Although he loved them, he waited.

Because;

True love,

True Love knows how to wait.

True Love waits for the perfect time.

True Love has self control.

True Love knows the difference between a want and a need.

True Love is not presumptuous.

True love is always on time.

1 Corinthians 13:4 love is patient

Why did he wait?

There’s a difference between God doing something in you and God doing something through you.

There’s a difference between God accommodating your temporary want and providing a long-term need.

There is a difference between a private breakthrough and a public testimony.

If Jesus would have healed Lazarus before he died it would have limited the impact.

But by waiting, not only did Lazarus experience the glory of Christ, but many came to Jesus because of the miracle.

The timing of God’s intervention is directly proportional to the magnitude of the outcome.

The measure of the wait is directly proportional to the magnitude of the testimony.

In other words,

The right time may not be your time but it is God’s time.

God’s timing is not about satisfying your feelings.

God’s timing it’s about strengthening your faith.

I’m here to tell you, whatever you’ve been praying for, it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when!

If you’ve been waiting for a long time it only means the testimony will impact more people.

If you have been waiting for a long time, it only means the anointing upon your testimony will result in more people coming to Jesus.

You are not waiting because God forgot about you.

You are waiting because God is preparing something greater for you.

When God waits it is to maximize the impact!

And when God says NOW, it will not only bless you, it will bless everyone who knows you.

At the right time, I will Lord will make it happen. Isaiah 60:22

The Lord will make it happen!

The Lord will make it happen!

The Lord will make it happen!

Tell your neighbor, at the right time, the Lord will make it happen.

I don’t hope it will happen.

I don’t think it will happen.

I don’t feel it will happen.

I know it will happen.

In the words of Job I know that my redeemer liveth.

Therefore I know the Lord will make it happen.

Stop!

Read it again!

4 But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.”

There’s a reason Lazarus came back to life.

Jesus never said Lazarus would never die.

Read it.

Jesus said it will not end in death.

In other words, Lazarus may go through the death chapter,

He may be dead for a temporary amount of time but it will not end in death.

Death may be part of the process, but it will not be the outcome.

The moment those words came out of the mouth of Jesus, that it would not end in death, Lazarus’s resurrection was the only plausible outcome!

I am here to tell you Jesus is the author and the finisher of your faith.

I’m here to tell you as it pertains to your faith, your family, your future, God’s promise is the only outcome!

All of God promises, not some of them but all of God promises are yes and amen in the person of Jesus Christ.

Christ says “Yes” to all God’s promises. This is why we have Christ to say “Amen” for us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.Hebrews 10:23

Therefore, you don’t have to worry about the end result.

You don’t have to worry about the outcome.

You don’t have to worry about what happens next.

If you receive this truth, you will no longer live in fear or with anxiety or with depression.

Because you already know what’s going to happen.

When they ask, “What’s next for you?”

 What’s next for your family?

What’s next for your faith?

What’s next for your health?

What’s next for your future?

What’s next for your generation?

Just tell them I know what’s next, the fulfillment  of God‘s promises!

What God said, that is next.

If the Father said it, I believe it!

If Jesus said it, I believe it.

If the Holy Spirit said it, I believe it.

What’s next is the fullness of everything that Jesus died for.

What’s next?

What’s next Is Acts 16:31, my entire family saved. “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

What’s next?

What’s next is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2:17,  upon all flesh!

‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. What’s next?

What’s next is the glory of God, Numbers 14:21, filling the earth!

But as surely as I live, and as surely as the earth is filled with the LORD’s glory,

What’s next?

A harvest of blessings, Galatians 6:9, for not giving up!

Do not grow tired of doing what is right at the right time you will reap a harvest of blessings if you do not give up.

The moment Jesus said it, it had no choice but to take place.

Because the word of God Luke 1:37 will never fail!

Because of Luke 18:27
“What is impossible for people is possible with God.”

*2 The Tension Between A Good Advice and A Great Assignment.

7 Finally, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea.”

8 But his disciples objected. “Rabbi,” they said, “only a few days ago the people in Judea were trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”

Jesus said let’s go back to Judea.

His disciples, his friends, his brothers look at him and parenthetically say “What are you talking about. You can’t go back there. The last time you were there they tried to kill you.”

Great Decisions Require Great Discernment!

Have you ever made a decision when everyone around you said don’t do it but you knew God was telling you to do it?

There are times the people around you will tell you don’t do it.

There are times your family members will tell you don’t do it.

There are times your flesh tells you don’t do it.

But the Spirit of God inside of you says DO IT!

Why?

Why?

Why?

Why would he ignore the advice of the closest people around them?

Why would he go back to the place where they attempted to assassinate him?

He went back to the place where they threw stones at him.

He went back to the place where they attempted to kill him.

Why did he want to go back?

He went back because his friend was there. Stop!

Because that’s what we do.

Because that’s what Christians do.

Because that’s what followers of Christ do.

We go back for our friends.

Let’s be clear;

He didn’t go back to re-live the trauma!

He didn’t go back to rehash the past.

He didn’t go back to reinforce a victimization status.

He went back because his friend was there.

You go back for your friend.

You go back for your family

You go back to save, to deliver to heal.

When Jesus went back he resurrected someone who was dead for four days, something he had not done before.

When God tells you to go back it is not to revisit the past.

It is not to do something old,

it’s to unleash something new.

When God tells you to go back it is only because he has anointed you to do what you did not do before.

He went back.

This was before his resurrection.

This was before he stepped into Jerusalem.

This was before the last chapter of his life.

Sometimes you need to go back in order to go forward.

Sometimes just like the bow and arrow you gotta go back before you are released.

Get this, the last time Jesus was there they threatened to kill him! Barely came out alive!

Yet Jesus went back in and performed one of his greatest miracles.

Where ever there is a threat, there’s a miracle behind that threat!

Where ever there is warfare, there’s breakthrough behind that warfare!

Where ever there is brokenness. there’s a blessing behind that brokenness!

Where there is an obstacle, there is overflow behind that obstacle.

Wherever there’s adversity, there is abundance behind that adversity!

I dare you to shout” I’m going in!”

I need you to tell your neighbor I’m going in. I’m aware of the threats but I’m going in.

I’m aware of what the enemy did in the past but I’m still going in.

Wherever you got kicked out of, get ready to go back and shine the glory of Jesus!

I feel an anointing.

I sense the Holy Spirit.

I’m here to declare by faith through Christ that you are about to go back and occupy the very area hell kicked you out of.

You are about to go back and do greater things in the area that hell kicked you out of.

You’re about to go back and serve as the conduit for Christ to save, deliver and heal friends and family members in the area where you were pushed out of.

I dare you to shout “I am going back to Judea! I’m going to see what I have never seen before in the same area where I was attacked before! (Repeat 3 times)

I’m going in to witness the salvation deliverance and healing of people I know in the very area where the enemy tried to take me out.

This is the word of the Lord for you today;

The place where they tried to break you will be the place of your breakthrough.

The place where they wounded you will be the place where God will do wonders through you.

The place of the mess will be the place of the miracle.

And when we reference place today, it is not limited to a geographical location.

Judea can easily be a spiritual place, a relational place, a financial please, a place of leadership, an atmosphere, a family related place, a place in your mind, a place in your heart…. a place of influence…

TYN!

I’m going back to Judea.

I’m going in!”

I’m going in with my prayer.

I’m going in with my praise.

I’m going in with my worship.

I’m going in with faith.

I’m going in with the word of God.

I’m going in with the Spirit of God.

I’m going in with the blood of Jesus.

I’m going in in the name of Jesus!

Wait!

That’s individual but what about corporately?

There was a time that Christians, the church was influential in education in this country until they kicked us out.

There was a time the Christians, the church lead the way in entrepreneurship, the marketplace and commerce, innovation and technology until we were kicked out.

There was a time, that we as Christians influenced government and politics till we were kicked out.

Well, I need you to get ready.

I said get ready!

Just like Jesus went back to Judea we are about to go back and shine the glory of Jesus in the very areas we were kicked out of.

*3 The Tension of doing for others what you need God to do for you!

17 When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days.

18 Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem, (1.5)

Bethany precedes Jerusalem.

The resurrection of Lazarus preceded the resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus resurrected his friend before he experienced Resurrection.

“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” Matt 7:12

You want to be forgiven, then forgive someone!

You want to be blessed, bless someone!

You want to be exalted, lift someone up!

You want to come out of your grave, help someone else come out of their grave!

Jesus resurrected Lazarus before he experienced Resurrection!

Find a friend that’s in a pit!

Find a friend that’s in a tomb.

 Find a friend that’s broken.

And tell that friend “You are coming out!”

And when they tell you no!

Tell them you don’t have a choice.

Because your breakthrough precedes my miracle!

Final Tensión;

You can be alive and still be wrapped up in what you went through!

When Jesus told Lazarus to come forth, he, Lazarus, came back to life, but he was still wrapped in his grave clothes.

You can be alive and still wrapped in the vestges of what you went through.

You can be alive and still wrapped in the past.

Just like Lazarus, surround yourself with people that will remove your grave clothes, unwrap and free you to live for Christ.

We need people in our lives that will unwrap us.

We need people in our lives that will remove the grave clothes.

We need people in our lives that will love us enough to tell us your not who you used to be, you’re not where you used to be, you’re not how you used to be, you are a new creation.

Love like it.

Forgive like it.

Give like it.

Speak like it.

Pray like it.

Live like it!
